Women’s Cup and Plate Semi Finals

10am – Women’s District Cup – Glasgow University 3 3-2 Edinburgh University 4

In a close game between the two university sides, Glasgow University came from behind twice to secure their place in this years District Cup final.

Edinburgh University scored the only goal of the first half, taking the lead with just a few minutes to play through Kirsty Pollock. Shortly after the restart Glasgow levelled the tie as Ruby Tindal finished off a penalty corner. Both teams exchanged futher goals in the 43rd and 44th minute, and it was the same two scorers as Pollock but Edinburgh ahead before Tindal again equalised from another penalty corner.

It was another penalty corner that would prove to be the winner for Glasgow University, Mads Bower grabbed the winner just after the beginning of the final quarter.

12pm – Women’s Scottish Plate – Clydesdale Western 3 1-3 Watsonians 2

In the semi final of the Scottish Plate, Watsonians took a first half lead through captain Jenny Ritchie. Clydesdale Western had their own penalty corner opportunities throughout the first half but failed to convert. Their persistence paid off however when the final play of the third quarter saw them equalise from a corner.

Watsonians would grab two goals in sixty seconds to put the game beyond Clydesdale with six minutes to go. Sophie Matthew put her side ahead before Maddie Lawlor converted a penalty stroke to send her side to the final.

 

12pm – Women’s District Cup – Grange EL 3 5-4 Clydesdale Western 4

After defeating reigning champions Shetland in their quarter final just yesterday, Grange would come from behind three times to claim their spot in the District Cup final over Clydesdale Western.

The Glasgow side took the lead in the first quarter, Sophie Harkins the scorer. By half time it was 2-2, Grange would equalise through Becca Hogg before Niki Walker restored Clydesdale Western’s lead. In the final minute of the half, Caitlin McIntosh converted from a penalty corner to level the game.

A fast exchange of goals in the third quarter would see it end 4-4. Walker put Clydesdale Western ahead again before Krista Hopkinson equalised. Grange would take the lead for the first time moments later through Kirstin Hay but they were pegged back again thanks to a goal by Ali Cox. In a tense final quarter, Grange would score the only goal through Claire Riddell to book their place in the final of this years District Cup.

 

Aberdeen Sports Village

Women’s District Plate – Gordonians 2 7-0 Monarchs

Gordonians claimed their spot in the District Plate final with a win over Monarchs in Aberdeen. Arabella Winn gave them the lead in the 10th minute from a penalty corner before a flurry of goals left the game beyond doubt by half time. Leigh Barr added a second before Stacey Freeman-Young and a double from Katherine Descamps made it 5-0. Winn added her second on the stoke of half time.

Into the second half and Descamps completed her hat trick with the solitary goal in the half.
