Wildcats setback for Grange
Grange’s title hopes received a setback today went they went
down 5-2 to Western Wildcats in the Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s
League today at Peffermill.
The home side enjoyed the best of the first half with Fraser
Sands netting two goals from set pieces but a Scott McCartney
penalty corner left the visitors, perhaps a little fortuitously,
trailing by only a solitary goal at the break.
However the Wildcats made Grange pay for some further poor
finishing in the second half by taking full advantage proving to be
dangerous especially on the break. The equaliser came courtesy of a
Joe Simpson neatly netted back post deflection and then Joe
McConnell gave the visitors the lead with a simple tap in from
close range.
Scott McCartney sealed the win with a penalty stroke and then a
goal from open play to complete his hat trick and put the icing on
the cake for the Wildcats.
Early leaders Grove Menzieshill returned to winning ways with a
closely fought 3-2 win over AAM Gordonians at Countesswells. The
Tayside team were 3-1 up at the break through goals from Jamie
Carnegie,Gavin Byers and Ross Stott and held on to secure the
points.
PSL Clydesdale picked up three important points from their trip
to face newly promoted Watsonians in Edinburgh with a comfortable
5-2 win. The goals were spread around which must have pleased coach
John McKnight coming from Ross McPherson, Gordon Amour, Ciaran
Crawford, Michael O’Donovan and John Martin.
AMH Hillhead picked up their first league win of the season with
a narrow 1-0 win over Edinburgh University at Jordanhill School.
John Horn was on hand to grab the points for the home side with
minutes remaining on the clock.
Finally the game between Glynhill Hotel Kelburne and Inverleith
was a late postponement when the umpires adjudicated that the lines
around each circle were insufficiently visible at Bellahouston to
enable the game to take place.
