Wildcats and GHK in eleven goal fest
A staggering eleven goals were shared in the match between Western Wildcats and GHK at Scottish Hockey’s ‘Awesome October’, with the Wildcats landing on all fours and coming out on top 7-4.
Western Wildcats started out as the stronger side and within the first five minutes got themselves on the score sheet from Anna Vardy to make it 1-0. The Wildcats applied great pressure deep in the GHK’s half and was awarded with another goal from Kareena Marshall.

After the first 20 minutes passed GHK woke up and started to attack on the Western Wildcats defence and secured their first goal of the game when Lynsey Barlas knocked it in at the near post making it 2-1.
With both teams playing well, there was some great hockey on show and in no time another goal went in. Western player Rachel Houghton took matters into her own hands and ran confidently into the circle passing the keeper to knock the ball into the back corner of the goal to make it 3-1.
However GHK did not drop the pace and the play was soon in the Western Wildcats half with GHK having three penalty corners and in the 29th minute being awarded with a goal from Kirsty O’Donnell’s straight hit, making it 3-2.
Some great saves made by both keepers, with Amy Lui making a great save against Houghton reverse stick shot, just before half time.
Western came out as the dominant side and took their chance on the counter attack with a set of clean passes to let Houghton take a clean shot on goal resulting in 4-2. It was end to end play throughout the second half with GHK Sarah Love braving a stunning save off the line to deny Western but the Wildcats scored once more from a penalty corner rebound, Katie Delvin tapping it in on the far post.

Western scored again on the 50th minute when the ball was played across the goal by Alex Stuart to the far post to a young Ellie Hutcheson stick to extend their lead at 6-2. GHK were still pressing and were making a comeback with a goal from Sarah Johnston getting the rebound and knocking it behind the keeper to make it 6-3.
Western were awarded a penalty shot which Marshall slotted in coolly for a 7-3 lead. GHK kept pressing in the last moments of the game being awarded multiple penalty corners and finally Carla Godsman managed to scrap back a goal for it to finish 7-4.
A hat-trick from Scotland international Cat Ralph, a double from Jenny Eadie and strikes from Alex Wilson and Holly Cram gave Milne Craig Clydesdale Western a comfortable 7-0 win over Glynhill Kelburne in the second women’s match of ‘Awesome October’.
The Titwood outfit recorded early goals from Wilson, a penalty corner from Ralph and Eadie’s finish.
