Western Wildcats duly progressed to the Women’s Scottish Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Glasgow University in the first semi-final.

The students put up a fight and the contest was still in the balance at half-time with a goalless outcome. The best chance of the half fell to Cats’ Kate Holmes when she came sliding in to tap in a rebound off the post but just failed to connect.

However the Cats finally got their whiskers in front when captain Mhairi McGregor finished off a penalty corner with a low shot.

The Cats place in the final was only confirmed with another strike, it came from a quick break down the right which was finished with a low shot from Aisha Saina.

In the other semi-final Clydesdale Western were 4-0 winners over GHK in another all-Premiership encounter. The favourites took the lead in the first quarter, Jika Nyirenda`s shot rebounded off the post and Ava Graham sent the rebound into the roof of the net.

And that is how it stood at half-time – still a close encounter…Clydesdale dominated proceedings but no clear cut chances.

Clydesdale`s second goal came as a result of a scramble in the circle, the ball popped up and Ali Howie was on hand to knock the ball home. Not long after the ball was smashed low across the circle and Bronwyn Shields fired home into the bottom right corner.

The result was now clear, but in the final quarter Fran Lonergan fired home a low hard shot at a penalty corner to add a fourth and a place in the final.
