Western within a point of Grove

SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE (WOMEN)

Milne Craig Western moved to within a single point of
Grove Menzieshill at the top of the Subway national league with
a  3-0 win over Edinburgh University at
Peffermill.

This victory also puts Western four points ahead of Giffnock in
the race for second spot and a place in Europe next season, and
Neil Menzies` charges have still a game in hand.  This was the
students first defeat in eight outings, but they still retain
fourth spot on their own.

In a fairly even first half which finished goalless, the best
chances fell to Western`s Holly Cram and Fiona Bruce, but both
spurned their opportunities.   But Western started the
second half with more purpose and went two up in the opening five
minutes.   A run down the right by Helen Walker took her
along the baseline, her cut-back found Cram whose first shot was
saved by the goalkeeper but the international striker buried the
rebound with a reverse stick shot.   Within two minutes
the Glasgow side were two up, a ball into the circle found Catriona
Ralph, it then bounced loose and Nicki Skrastin pounced and fired
the ball into the net.

Western went three ahead in 55 minutes at a penalty corner, the
ball was slipped left to Susan McGilveray who fired the ball into
the net.

Glynhill Kelburne completed a good weekend with a single goal
victory over VWS Dundee Wanderers at Bellahouston, and consequently
leapfrog over the Taysiders into fifth spot in the table.  The
only goal of the game came in the first half with a penalty corner
conversion by Christine Ayling.
