Western take on Grove
SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE (WOMEN)
Grove Menzieshill`s steady progress towards their sixth
Subway national league title in a row could be under scrutiny when
third placed Milne Craig Western come calling to Tayside this
weekend.
Although the Glasgow side lost 4-1 to Grove in the second game
of the season, since then Western have put together a run of seven
straight victories which is clear sign of progress.
“We are clearly not favourites, but we always believe that we
have the capability of taking the points if we play to our
strengths,” said Neil Menzies, Western`s coach. “The
earlier 4-1 scoreline was not a fair reflection of the overall
game, it was fairly even except for the important issue of
converting penalty corners. Since then our general team
play has improved considerably and as individuals virtually all of
our players have been performing well.”
Unfortunately, Western are almost certain to have to do without
Ali Howie through injury, a big loss as she has had an outstanding
season so far.
Grove will also be without a couple of regulars, captain Ailsa
Wyllie is also our through injury and defender Louise Carroll has
work commitments. Wyllie rather non committal about the
prospects. “It`s very early on in the second half of the
season to make any real predictions, Western finished the first
half strongly so we will be expecting a tough game.”

The Taysiders are definitely in the driving seat, five points
ahead of Giffnock in second place and another two in front of
Western. Giffnock are also on an unbeaten run of ten games
and should take the points off Kelburne at the weekend.
Earlier in the season the sides were locking in a goalless draw,
but the Paisley outfit are at present stranded in mid-table.
