Western finish a point behind champions Grove
The final chapter in the women`s Subway national league
unfolded today, Milne Craig Western finished in second place only a
point behind champions Grove Menzieshill after beating GHK
5-0.
The goals for Western came from Anna-Mae Morton (2), Catriona
Ralph from a penalty corner, Karin Belch and Jen Eadie. The
result means that GHK are officially relegated after only a season
in the top flight.
CALA Edinburgh leapfrogged Kelburne into sixth spot in the table
following a 1-0 victory over yesterday`s losing Scottish Cup
finalists VWS Dundee Wanderers. The only goal of the match
came in the first half with a penalty corner conversion from Amy
Brodie.
Inverleith finally won division two and automatic promotion to
the top flight despite losing 2-1 to Hillhead in their final
match. Their cause was assisted by rivals Watsonians
only drawing 1-1 with Granite City Wanderers in Aberdeen, leaving
Inverleith with a two point lead at the death.
Watsonians will now play Western Wildcats in a promotion play-off
for the final place in next season`s first division.
