Weekend Preview: Women’s National Indoor League programme

The Women’s National Indoor League programme continues this weekend with fixtures in Division 1, Central and Midland & North on Sunday 20 January.

Women’s National Indoor League Division 1 – Forthbank, Stirling

In Division 1, the battle to beat the drop between Granite City Wanderers, Reid Kerr College Kelburne and Inverleith Ladies will intensify during Sunday’s indoor session at Forthbank, Stirling.

With little prospect of taking points from their first encounter against a buoyant Dundee Wanderers, Inverleith’s subsequent matches against their two relegation rivals could go a long way to determining who will be relegated from the top league.

Meanwhile, Granite City Wanderers face two testing clashes against Milne Craig Clydesdale Western and Western Wildcats. It won’t be any easier for Kelburne too, who play second place Grove Menzieshill and the Wildcats.

At the top of the division, Dundee Wanderers extended their 100% record with another two wins last weekend and the Dundonians will be favourites to take maximum points from their two matches against Inverleith and Milne Craig Clydesdale Western on Sunday.

Furthermore, they will be keen to keep an eye on the outcome of the contest between CALA Edinburgh and Grove Menzieshill, particularly if the capital side can take any points from their city rivals.

Women’s National Indoor League Central Division – Bell’s Sport Centre, Perth

Waverley Inveresk Trinity have the opportunity to extend their unbeaten record at the top of the Central Division on Sunday when they take on bottom place Reid Kerr College Kelburne II in their first match of the day.  And they could go a long way to securing the league title if they can overcome Milne Craig Clydesale Western II, who sit eight points back in second place, in their second match.

However, a victory for the Glasgow side and maximum points from their fixtures against Kelburne II and Grange EL could narrow the gap and put pressure back on WIT at the top. Hillhead Ladies could also still be in with a shout of promotion if they can dispose of the same opponents.

Women’s National Indoor League Midland & North Division – Bell’s Sport Centre, Perth

It remains a three way fight for the title between Grove Menzieshill A, Stirling Wanderers and Perthshire in the Midland & North Division and all three sides will face each other this weekend in fixtures that could determine the destination of the title.

Perthshire have fixtures against Stirling Wanderers, Grove Menzieshill A and Dundee Wanderers II, while Stirling Wanderers also play Grove Menzieshill A and Bon Accord MBC. Grove Menzieshill A’s other match is against Bon Accord MBC.

The bottom two also meet on Sunday with both sides eager to avoid finishing bottom of the pile come the end of the season.
