Watsonians win at Uddingston in men’s Premiership
Uddingston missed out on a place in the top six of the Premiership after going down 2-0 to Watsonians in a game destroyed as a spectacle by high winds and torrential rain.
Harry Dunlop, Uddingston`s Director of Hockey, said: “It was not a great game due to the weather conditions, but we made more errors than they did and Watsonians had more chances to score, so it was probably a fair result in the end.”
However, the result means that Watsonians overtake Dunfermline Carnegie and move up to fourth in the table. Also Clydesdale may look favourites to hold on to their coveted top six spot but still have to await the result of Inverleith`s trip to Grove Menzieshill tomorrow, although the Edinburgh side have to make up a 14 goal deficit to put Clydesdale`s aspirations in any danger.
After some pressure in the first half Watsonians finally broke the deadlock when Dan Coultas found the net with a powerful drag flick at a penalty corner. The destiny of the three points was confirmed in the second half when Coultas converted from the spot, and there was no way back for the youthful Uddingston side who created a few chances of their own but failed to score.
