Wanderers turn on the style
VWS Wanderers turned on the style running out comfortable 6-0
winners against Grange at Peffermill in the Subway National League
yesterday. Heather Elder and Julie Bryce were on hand to give coach
Iain Strachan’s side a half time lead.
The second period saw Elder complete her hat trick and Bryce add
her own second whilst an Amy Rowan penalty corner
conversion completed the comprehensive win. Strachan
was satisfied with the result but felt that his side need to
improve their short corner routines.
GHK were disappointed to lose 2-1 to Western Wildcats where
captain Fiona Donald gave the home side an early lead with a
straight strike set piece. However the visitors were level before
the break before a a defensive error gifted the Wildcats the vital
second goal. Constant home pressure could not breakdown a resolute
Wildcat’s defence.
Elsewhere Kelburne and Giffnock fought out a scoreless encounter
at Bellahouston and Edinburgh University made their first
league appearance of the season holding CALA Edinburgh to a
2-2 draw.
The Men’s competition saw CALA Edinburgh register their
first league victory with a good 3-2 win away to AMN Hillhead. Ewan
Campbell gave the hosts an early lead but Ramsey Bell levelled
matters when he volleyed home at the far post from a David Guy
cross.
The visitors were given a half time lead through a David
Patterson drag flick which sailed high into the top left
corner. Early in the second period Guy once again found Bell
who rounded the keeper to give the visitors some breathing
space.
However in the closing minutes Chris Caldwell gave Hillhead some
hope of snatching a share of the spoils leading to a frantic finish
but to no avail.
Title hopefuls Grange travelled to Tayside to play VWS Dundee
Wanderers and ran out easy winners 7-1. The goals coming from
Duncan Liddle (3), Cammie Fraser (2), Phil Sully and Mark Connor
with a consolation reply from Paul Dailly.
