Under 21 Scots lose twice in Spain
Scotland`s under 21 side lost their first two test
matches against Spain, part of the build-up for the forthcoming
European Junior Nations Championships in Den
Bosch.
The defeats 7-2 and then 4-0 must be a source of concern for
Scotland coach Graham Moodie as Spain, along with Germany and
Belgium, will be the Scots opponents in the pool competition in Den
Bosch.
In the first encounter, the Scots youngsters took the first half
to get used to the pace of the game and the 35 degree heat,
consequently found themselves five down at the
interval. But Moodie`s charges rallied to draw the
second period, both goals were scored by Glynhill Kelburne striker
Alan Forsyth, the first from a direct hit at a penalty corner, the
other from a rebound after Grange`s Hamish Imrie`s initial effort
was blocked by the goalkeeper.
The Scots went down 4-0 to the lively Spanish in the second
match, they held their own in the opening half reaching the
interval only a single goal behind, but lost a further three in the
second half.
“We created some good chances, but a few defensive errors cost
us,” said Neil Allan, Scotland`s manager.
