Uddingston recieves ‘Awards for All’ boost
Uddingston Hockey Club’s local schools development programme got a further boost in January following the award of a £7000 ‘Awards for All’ grant.
The grant will go towards the continued development of the ongoing schools coaching programme, which has seen the club link with ten primary and three secondary schools in South & North Lanarkshire and the East-end of Glasgow, including Chatelherault PS, Tannochside PS, Bothwell PS, St Brides PS, Aitkenhead PS, Muiredge PS, Beckford PS, St Marys PS, Garrowhill PS, St John’s PS, Holy Cross HS, Uddingston Grammar & Hamilton College.
The grant funding has also led to the programme growing to include inter-school games being organised from this February onwards. This will give the children a sense of competition with teams being made up from each school’s after-school club, which average around 25 pupils per session.
The overall aim is the creation of a local hockey school league for primary schools and in the near future, a league for senior schools that the primary schools feed into.
By implementing this development programme, Uddingston Hockey club hope to see talented youngsters return to the club, as well as new talent coming to Uddingston Hockey Club Indoor Youth Coaching, which runs on Thursday evenings at Hamilton College 6.30-8.00pm for boys and girls 6-16 years old. For further information please email the club’s youth convenor Ross McWilliams
Easter Youth Camp dates have also been released by the club, which will run from Tuesday 9th April to Friday 12th April, 10 – 3pm at Uddingston Grammar School Sport Centre. Places are open to all and can be booked via email.
The club sessions and youth camps are open to all new players and pupils that take part in the in school programme with full details able to be found via the club’s website: www.uddingstonhockeyclub.co.uk.
