U16 Scotland squads shine abroad
There was great success for the U16 Scotland squads as they played abroad in a World Youth Tournament held in Holland over the weekend, the boys finished top and the girls a respectable third place.
The boys topped the table only conceding one goal throughout the weekend. They went into the tournament full of confidence after beating HGC in a friendly 11-1.
In the first official day of the tournament saw the boys go on a goal spree win 10-0 against Spanish side RC Polo followed by a strong 6-0 win over Dutch side Zoetermeer.
On the Sunday the boys faced thee matches but despite tired legs the boys won 2-0 against Austria. This was followed by a tough 0-0 draw with Mannheim but they finished on a high with a 2-0 win over Stuttgart.
For the U16 girls it was a mix of results, winning their first match 2-0 both goals from Robin Robeson. This was followed by a 3-1 loss to hosts Zoetemeer.
The girls put the loss to the back of their minds and pushed on with a strong 4-0 win over Canadian side Robert Short. As confidence grew they won 4-1 over Spanish side RC Polo goals from Amy Costello, Maddie Cleat and two from Charlotte Watson.
They lost 3-0 to German side Kahlenberg but redeemed themselves with a great win over Zoetemeer goal scorers Charlotte Watson, Laura Sawnson and Mackenzie Brown. Over all the girls finished third in the tournament. It is safe to say the future of Scotland hockey is in safe hands!
