U16 Club Cup pools day report
The U16 Club Cup Pools day served up some great encounters at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre, ahead of finals day on 2 April.
Grove Menzieshill 4-2 Perthshire
A great win for Grove Menzieshill gave them the points against Perthshire in the boys’ tournament. Grove Menzieshill scored the opening goal in the 7th minute when Hamish Rice struck from open play. This was quickly followed up two minutes later when Jamie Golden converted a penalty corner to make it 2-0.
Perthshire struck back on 14 minutes when John Stephen scored from a penalty corner to pull it back to 2-1.
Grove Menzieshill struck again however, when on 19 minutes Sam Knight converted from open play. They scored their fourth on 25 minutes when Rice scored a penalty corner – his second of the match.
Alex Wilson completed the scoring when he pulled one back for Perthshire for a final score of 4-2.
Watsonians 2-2 Inverleith
A competitive draw was played out between Watsonians and Inverleith in the girls’ competition. Watsonians took an early lead when Murray Cannon scored on 2 minutes to make it 1-0. Cannon then bagged his second when a penalty corner was converted on 23 minutes.
Inverleith then scored two goals in quick succession to level the scores. Livio Belotti hit the net on 27 minutes and again on 30 minutes to make a final score of 2-2.
CALA 1-1 Clydesdale Western
CALA and Clydesdale shared the spoils in the girls’ competition with a 1-1 draw.
CALA got off to a great start when Abbie Grant scored on 7 minutes from open play to give her side the lead.
Clydesdale Western equalised on 18 minutes when Zara Mason found the net in an entertaining contest.
Inverleith 0-3 Watsonians
Watsonians were on top form and struck three goals in quick succession to give them the win over Inverleith. Sophie McGlynn bagged all three on 25 minutes, 26 minutes, and 29 minutes for a sensational hat-trick of field goals.
Western Wildcats 2-0 Grange
Western Wildcats boys clocked up a good victory against Grange in the boys’ competition. The opener was scored on 19 minutes when Ewan Crawford struck from open play.
Then on 22 minutes Fraser Moran doubled their lead with a good finish to make it 2-0.
Clydesdale 1-4 Grange
Grange boys were in electrifying form against Clydesdale, they got off to a great start when Sam Tait sunk a penalty corner to make it 1-0 on three minutes.
They doubled their lead in the eighth minute when Murray Constable scored from another penalty corner.
Just two minutes later and Robbie Galoway added his name to the scoresheet when he made it 3-0, before Alex Riddle scored from open play on 18 minutes to make it 4-0.
Clydesdale pulled one back in the 29th minute when Ben Galloway scored a penalty stroke.
Fjordhus Reivers 0-1 CALA
In a tight encounter between Fjordhus Reivers and CALA, only one goal separated the sides. It went to CALA and it was Katy Martin who delivered the goods in the eighth minute of the match.
Watsonians 0-2 Grange
Grange clocked up the win against Watsonians; they opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Alex Riddle struck from open play.
Grange doubled their lead on 24 minutes through a Jamie Prittchard goal to make a final score of 2-0.
Grove Menzieshill 6-0 Hillhead
Grove Menzieshill were on top form in their 6-0 win over Hillhead. The scoring started on 2 minutes when Dale Shearer hit the net from open play.
Shearer was at it again almost instantly when on 6 minutes he struck his, and Grove Menzieshill’s, second of the match.
Then on 15 minutes Jamie Golden got in on the act when he scored to make it 3-0.
Grove Menzieshill bagged their fourth on 19 minutes and it came through a Lewis McKenzie penalty corner.
In the 24th minute Shearer completed his hat-trick to make it 5-0, before Hamish Rice completed the scoring a minute later to make it 6-0.
Western Wildcats 3-0 Watsonians
A solid 3-0 win for Western Wildcats saw them beat Watsonians in an entertaining match. Western Wildcats took the lead in the 19th minute when Andrew McAllister struck from open play.
They doubled their lead a minute later when Fraser Moran finished off a penalty corner. Moran completed his double on 27 minutes from open play to make it 3-0.
GHK 0-1 Clydesdale Western
A tight match between GHK and Clydesdale Western saw Clydesdale grab the win with an early goal. The only goal of the game was scored on two minutes by Bronwyn Shields from open play, and it was enough to separate the sides in a close match.
CALA 0-3 Grove Menzieshill
Grove Menzieshill clocked up a good win against CALA in the boys’ competition. The opening goal came on 15 minutes when Jamie Golden converted a penalty corner.
Grove Menzieshill hit their second a minute later when Lewis McKenzie finished from open play.
Jamie Golden completed the scoring, bagging his second and Grove Menzieshill’s third in the victory.
Inverleith 0-2 GHK
In the girls’ tournament GHK defeated Inverleith 2-0 in an exciting contest. GHK took the lead on 18 minutes when Mhairi Crooks hit the net to make it 1-0.
Ten minutes later and GHK doubled their lead when Anna Pover struck from open play on 28mins to give her side the win.
Western Wildcats 3-0 Clydesdale
Western Wildcats won 3-0 against Clydesdale in the boys’ competition. The opener was bagged on 8 minutes by Fraser Moran, he converted from a penalty corner.
In the 20th minute it was 2-0 and it was Moran on hand again to finish to give his side the advantage.
Western Wildcats completed the scoring on 23 minutes and it was Andrew McAllister who netted for a good 3-0 win.
CALA Reivers 3–2 Hillhead
CALA Reivers and Hillhead played out an entertaining match with CALA Reivers grabbing the victory.
The opening goal was struck on 2 minutes when John Stewart Roper hit the net for CALA from open play.
Hillhead responded on 15 minutes through a Harry Beaumont field goal to make it 1-1. Hillhead then took the lead on 19 minutes through a Ewan Cochrane strike to make it 2-1.
Then a quick-fire double put CALA back on front, John Stewart Roper struck on 25 minutes, then on 27 minutes to seal his hat-trick and the victory for his side.
Hillhead 0-3 Perthshire
Perthshire struck three times to seal the win against Hillhead in the boys’ competition.
The opener came on 19 minutes when John Stephen struck from a penalty corner.
Perthshire doubled their lead a minute later when on 20 minutes Ross Fleming scored to make it 2-0. Perthshire made it 3-0 on 26 minutes when John Stephen sealed his double from open play.
Watsonians 0-2 Clydesdale
A good win for Clydesdale saw them strike twice against Watsonians in the boys’ competition.
Clydesdale took the lead in the third minute when Ben Galloway struck to make it 1-0.
The second goal came in the 18th minute when Struan Walker scored from open play to give his side an excellent 2-0 win.
Grange 3-0 Inverleith
Grange beat Inverleith 3-0 in an excellent game in the boys’ competition.
The opening goal was struck on 14 minutes through a Robbie Croll penalty corner.
Grange doubled their lead on 26 minutes, this time it was Alex Riddle who converted from a penalty corner routine.
The third and final goal for Grange came from another penalty corner when in the 27th minute Jonathan Hawley converted to make it 3-0.
Fjordhus Reivers 0-2 Watsonians
A good 2-0 victory saw Watsonians beat Fjordhus Reivers in the girls’ competition.
Watsonians opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Sophie McGlynn struck to make it 1-0.
Three minutes later and Watsonians struck again, this time it was Georgia Jones scoring from open play on 17 minutes to make it 2-0.
Perthshire 1-0 CALA Reivers
Perthshire beat CALA Reivers 1-0 in a competitive encounter in the boys’ competition.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 30th minute when John Stephen found the back of the net from open play to give Perthshire the victory.
Western Wildcats 4-0 Inverleith
Western Wildcats clocked up an excellent four-goal victory over Inverleith in the boys’ competition.
The opener came on three minutes when Ewan Cowan struck from open play to give Wildcats the lead.
Then on 15 minutes Fraser Moran made it 2-0 with a field goal. Wildcats advanced their lead on 21 minutes through a Moran penalty corner.
Just before the half-hour mark McAllister bagged his second and his team’s fourth to complete the scoring in an excellent victory.
Clydesdale 0-2 Inverleith
Inverleith scored two goals to give them a solid victory over Clydesdale in the boys’ competition.
The opener was struck on 9 minutes through Fergal O’Donohoe to give Inverleith a 1-0 lead.
Inverleith scored again on 22 minutes when Livio Belotti made it 2-0, which was how it stayed giving Inverleith the victory.
