Top sides piled in the goals in the men`s Premiership and in the women`s there were wins for GHK and St Andrews University

No change in the top three with wins for Grange, Western Wildcats and Edinburgh University – they scored 20 goals between them. GHK scored nine and St Andrews University four in the two women`s games that were played.

After a start when goals seemed to be of a premium and chances squandered, Grange now seem in full flow with seven against ESM to hold on to pole position in the Premiership. Set piece expert Aidan McQuade was in full flow with a hat-trick of penalty corner conversions after Joe Waterston put the holders in front from open play in only seven minutes. The other goals came from Livio Belotti, Dylan Bean and finally Alan Johnston.

The chasing pack were right on the heels of Grange, in particular Western Wildcats who had a convincing 7-0 win over visitors Watsonians at Auchenhowie. Wildcats` coach Steven Percy called it a “dominant performance.”

Adam McKenzie was top striker with a hat-trick, Fraser Calder bagged a couple and the other goals came from Andrew McConnell, recently returned from Germany, and Fraser Moran.

Edinburgh University are still in third spot, three points adrift of Wildcats with a game in hand, after seeing off Clydesdale 6-4 in a game full of goals. Once again Keir Robb was the main provider with a hat-trick and he was ably supported by Arthur Owens, Tom Cahalin and Henry Porter. Clydesdale`s replies came from a double by Andrew Allan along with David Clark and Ethan Robertson. The result drops Clydesdale out of the top six for the first time.

Inverleith have moved up into the top six with a high scoring 5-4 win over Hillhead. Penalty corner expert Charlie Jack was to the fore with a hat-trick while Inverleith`s other goals came from Jack Henderson and Tom Barton. At last Inverleith seem to have converted draws into wins.

Captain Kyle Taylor remarked: “We’re very pleased to get the win today. The boys dug in after going 3-1 down and delighted to finally turn our performance into three points.”

Hillhead`s replies came from Ruari Thomson, a double from Murray Ross, and Matt Carder.

Uddingston moved up to fifth in the table with a 4-0 win away to bottom side Kelburne, Jedd Campbell scored twice from penalty corners while Max Strachan and Finn Halliday added the others.

And now to the Dundee derby…and the winner was Wanderers by 4-1 over city rivals Grove Menzieshill. On target were Callum Ross with a double, Kennedy Gibb and Robbie Alexander. The result pulls Wanderers up two places to ninth but Grove Menzieshill are on the other direction.

While most of the sides in the women`s Premiership were not in action, GHK continued their recovery with a 9-0 win over Gordonians to consolidate their seventh place in the table – on the verge of the top six.

Fiona Semple from the spot and Lucy Williamson at a penalty corner gave GHK a solid start to proceedings in the first quarter. Thereafter the flood gates opened, Williamson scored another three for a game total of four, Kayleigh Justice scored twice from tap ins at the back post, sister Margery sunk a penalty corner, and finally Emma Tennant completed the scoring.

Newly promoted St Andrews University consolidated their place in the top flight with a 4-1 home win over Hillhead. The students scorers were Fiona Hawkins, Jasmine Mitchell, Becky Anderson and Sarah Lonergan, with Emma Blackstone replying for the Glasgow side. The result, however, leaves Hillhead firmly rooted at the bottom zone of the table with no points.
