Thunder and Lightning on the pitch on BRAVE Cup day two
Thunder 1-1 (3-2) Lightning (Aspiring Boys)
Thunder and Lightning drew 1-1 in the Aspiring Boys’ BRAVE Cup 2025 before Thunder took the bonus point in a 3-2 shootout win.
The opening of the match was very tight with neither side taking control of the match. Lightning had the best chance of the quarter with a fizzed pass across goal, but it met no takers.
Lightning stepped up in the second quarter but it would be the home side who would strike first. Thunder took the lead when Ben MacLellan struck a near post effort for 1-0 right before half time.
The third quarter continued to be tight with both sides having bright moments, but no clean chances for a goal.
Lightning eventually found their equaliser in the final quarter. The second phase of a penalty corner saw the ball squeezed over the line by Alexander Buckley for 1-1.
A late push by Lightning was held off by Thunder and the game ended in a draw.
The shootout for the bonus point was as tight as the match but Thunder took the win with a 3-2 victory.
Thunder 2-4 (2-3) Lightning (Aspiring Girls)
Lightning Aspiring Girls defeated Thunder 4-2 at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre at BRAVE Cup 2025. A tense shootout saw Lightning take the bonus point with a 3-2 win.
It was a very close start to the game with both sides playing positive hockey but not creating any clean chances.
Lightning had a great chance to break the deadlock in the second quarter from the penalty spot but Freya Ballantine was denied at the top left corner by a great save by Fallon Thomson.
The opener eventually came right before the break and it was a slick move by Lightning that opened the goal up for a Sophie Hogarth tap-in for 1-0.
The second half began in a flurry of goals and opportunities. Lightning went 2-0 ahead when a low ball deflection by Keara Milligan found the net after the restart. Then a penalty corner by Kate Grace Kellock pulled one back for Thunder at 2-1.
An excellent save at the top left corner denied Lightning a third soon after Thunder struck their goal.
The third goal for Lightning came soon enough and it was a sublime finish into the top left corner by Izzy Hogarth that made it 3-1.
Thunder struck again in the final quarter when a penalty corner rebounded off the left post into the path of Autumn Hunter who slotted home for 3-2.
Lightning restored their lead when an exchange at a penalty corner gave Izzy Molyneux the space to fire home for 4-2, and complete the scoring.
The success for Lightning was doubled when they won the bonus point in the shootout 3-2.
Thunder 5-0 (1-3) Lightning (Emerging Boys)
A tremendous 5-0 victory saw Thunder defeat Lightning in the emerging boys’ BRAVE Cup 2025. Lightning took the win in the shootout with a 3-1 victory for the bonus point.
A Thunder counter attack led to a stroke for a foul on Oscar Lochrin, which Amar Sagoo stepped up to strike into the bottom left corner for 1-0.
Early in the second quarter Sagoo struck again with a clinical close range finish for 2-0 to Thunder.
Thunder continued to threaten with Sagoo and Lochrin proving to be a thorn in the side of Lightning, but the half would end with no further goals.
Early in the second half it went to 3-0 after a loose bit of defending allowed Lochrin to scoop home to extend Thunder’s advantage.
Lochrin made it 4-0 for Thunder early in the final quarter when he deflected a slick penalty corner routine into the roof of the net.
Then Lochrin completed his hat trick with a near post deflection to make it 5-0 with five minutes to play.
The bonus point in the shootout went to Lightning with a 3-1 win.
Thunder 1-3 (3-1) Lightning (Emerging Girls)
Lightning defeated Thunder 3-1 in the Emerging Girls’ BRAVE Cup 2025 at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. The score was reversed in the shootout at Thunder took the bonus point at 3-1.
The opening quarter saw Lightning dominate the possession but Thunder held up well under scrutiny. There were no clear chances despite the good Lightning play.
In the second quarter Thunder almost took the lead when Chloe Hardie blasted a penalty corner towards goal, but it was well blocked by the goalkeeper’s leg guards.
Hardie wouldn’t be denied for long. A lovely penalty corner routine saw the ball slipped left for Hardie to slot the ball into the bottom right corner for 1-0 to Thunder.
Going a goal behind sparked Lightning to life and Bella Lockwood swept the ball home to equalise with two minutes of the half left to play.
After half time Lightning went back on the attack. Lightning hit the post as they piled on the pressure, which they followed up with a succession of penalty corners, but they couldn’t convert and the match went into the final quarter all square.
In the final quarter Lightning finally struck, and it was a low penalty corner finish on the second phase by Emily Widdowson that made it 2-1.
Gracie Mitchinson made it 3-1 to Lightning with a lovely deflected finish into the roof of the net at a penalty corner routine.
The bonus point in the shootout went to Thunder with a 3-1 shootout victory.
