Three way challenge for second spot.

Western Wildcats recent winning run in the Subway National
League will be tested this weekend with the visit of an Edinburgh
University sitting proudly in the top half of the table.

Graham Moodie’s team have enjoyed a consistent run with only
Kelburne and Grange able to get the better of the students.
Wildcats coach Vishal Marwaha feels “Uni have had some great
results and the teams were evenly matched the last time we played
each other” – honours being even in a six goal thriller.

This will be Wildcats first scheduled “home” game but it will
take place at Millerston as the new pitch at Auchenhowie will not
be ready until the league programme comes out of winter hibernation
next February. Marwaha finished by saying “I expect another tough
game and we will have to perform well to win.”

The Wildcats will be looking to Scott McCartney and Douglas
Simpson to continue their recent fine scoring run as they look to
put continued pressure on the second placed teams Grande and
Inverleith.

Grange will be looking to put the disappointment of last week’s
top of the table loss behind them as they take on Greaves
Clydesdale. However the Edinburgh side have suffered indifferent
results of recent against the Titwood side.

Grange captain Rob Barr’s view was “We didn’t play badly against
Kelburne but I felt we didn’t manage to create enough of a threat.
They continue to set the benchmark and it seems inevitable they
will go on and win the title again this year.”

Barr’s side were perhaps lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw at
Titwood and the captain went on to add “We always have tough games
against Clydesdale and I think their league position is false and
expect them to climb the table in the second half of the
season.”

Clydesdale coach Gordon Shepherd is looking forward to the game
commenting “Both teams played an open expansive game earlier in the
season and I am sure it will be the same again.” Managing to hold a
team of Grange’s quality to a draw and then failing to maintain
that level of performance has been a source of great frustration to
Shepherd who added “The players have not played as “one” in many
games. When they play for each other and not as individuals they
are a completely different team.”

Grange will still be without Martin Johnstone (wrist) and Adam
Walker (knee) for the clash and Barr finished by saying We still
have much to play for and our aim is to win as many games as
possible but it’s unlikely Kelburne will falter.”

Inverleith climbed into joint second after Sunday’s win over VWS
Wanderers in a catch up fixture. Coach Stevie McCurry had been
bemused by his side’s recent inability to finish off the chances
being created with set piece conversion rates being of particular
concern. However the Wanderers game appears to indicate a change of
fortune and confidence should be flowing for the visit of AMN
Hillhead.

Hillhead are beginning to lose touch a little in second bottom
spot coming off a run of three successive defeats and coach Keith
Joss will be keen to end this sequence. One of the main areas to be
worked on for Joss will be a defence which has shipped eighteen
goals in the last fortnight.

CALA Edinburgh have found life difficult in the last few weeks
but will be looking to get back on the rails when they entertain a
VWS Dundee Wanderers team still looking to kick start their season
remaining firmly rooted at the bottom.

The home team showed enough in the second half last week,
despite going down at Titwood,  to suggest that they are more
than capable of claiming full points from this game. However
Wanderers need to start picking up points is becoming imperative
although there have been recent signs that Kevin Farnon’s young
team are beginning to find their feet.
