The Scottish Cup competitions are back!
The Scottish Cup competitions are back! The draws for this season’s Scottish Cups, District Cups and Reserve Cup have been made.
Women’s Cup Competitions
In the Women’s Scottish Cup, the Premiership teams have all avoided each other as they are seeded in the first round, but there are still some interesting ties: Edinburgh University take on Stirling University in the battle of the students; Hillhead travel to Inverness to play Highland; and Stirling Wanderers host Glasgow University. Watsonians 2’s will play ESM 2’s in a preliminary round as there are 33 teams.
The District Cup is for all teams which do not play in the Premiership, National or Championship leagues. There are eight first round matches and eight teams receiving byes. The match between Edinburgh University’s 4’s and 6’s should draw a good crowd to Peffermill. Shetland travel to play Perthshire 3’s; and Hillhead 3’s host Clydesdale Western 4’s in a Glasgow derby.
Men’s Cup Competitions
The Men’s Scottish Cup has five first-round ties, with the winners joining the top 11 Premiership sides (based on 2019-20 rankings) in round 2. Perthshire v Gordonians is the pick of the ties. ESM host FMGM Monarchs, and Granite City Wanderers will look forward to playing Premiership opposition in Inverleith.
There are also five first-round ties in the Men’s District Cup, and 11 byes. The draw has provided two local derbies: Glasgow University 2’s v Clydesdale 2’s in the West; and Edinburgh University 2’s v Inverleith 2’s in the East. Wildcats 2’s make the journey to play Shetland in Aberdeen.
Finally, in the Reserve Cup, there are four first round ties and 12 byes. Dunfermline Carnegie 3’s v Hillhead 4’s and Inverleith 3’s v Western Wildcats 3’s look like good matchups.
Schedule
Matches start on Sunday 10 October for teams without byes, and all cups will be played on a knock-out basis until the finals in May. There will be Plate competitions for teams who are knocked out in the early rounds.
Emma High, Competitions & Events Manager (Senior), commented, “We’re really looking forward to this season’s cups after being unable to complete the 2019-20 competitions and never getting started last season. We have teams from all over the country, from Orkney and Shetland to the Borders and Ardrossan. There are some interesting ties in all competitions, and I’d like to wish all teams the best of luck.”
