The Netherlands win U16 Easter 4 Nations in Glasgow

The Netherlands U16 Boys 5-2 England U16 Boys

The Netherlands won the U16 Boys’ Easter 4 Nations in Glasgow with a 5-2 win over England in the final at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Ian Van Beurden opened the scoring with a pinpoint finish into the bottom right corner across the goalkeeper to put The Netherlands 1-0 ahead.

Less than two minutes later and it went to 2-0 when an Olivier Van Uffen drag flick into the bottom left corner left the goalkeeper helpless.

In the second quarter England pulled one back through a close range finish by Jake Glew, to pull it back to 2-1.

Early in the second half England equalised when a defence splitting pass found Josh Higgin in space, and he fired the ball low off the post and in for 2-2.

The Netherlands got back in front when a good exchange down the right found Elias Hoepelman free at the far post for a tap in. 3-2.

Then Mees Wehymaker scored an athletic goal on the turn to make it 4-2 for The Netherlands.

With three minutes remaining Floris Rap went on a weaving solo run and his cutback deflected off an English stick and into the net for 5-2, and completed the scoring.

 

Scotland Emerging Boys 1-3 France U16 Boys

France U16 Boys claimed third spot in the Easter 4 Nations with a 3-1 victory over Scotland Emerging Boys at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

The opening quarter was very close and tentative with neither side taking hold of the contest.

In the second quarter a penalty stroke went to France and Achille Verhasselt struck the post with the effort, letting Scotland off the hook.

The fatigue of four back-to-back games clearly revealed itself, and both sides struggled to assert themselves.

Right on the brink of the end of the third quarter, Scotland finally found the net. A penalty corner rebound was slid low into the bottom left corner by Cody Adams. 1-0.

Jonas Mahe equalised from a penalty corner right at the start of the final quarter with a low effort into the bottom left corner. 1-1.

Then Thomas Gautier put the French in front with a penalty corner into the bottom left corner. 2-1.

Scotland took off their goalkeeper for one final push and were punished on a counter as France went 3-1 ahead through Loris Mallet, and claim third spot.
