STOTT KEEPS THE FAITH WITH JUNIOR WOMEN
Scotland U21 Women will be aiming to build on their
performances against the Czech Republic last weekend when they
travel to Northern Ireland for three matches against Ulster at
Jordanstown from 15-17 June.
The Scots recorded two wins against their Czech
counterparts, whilst they gained a credible 4-4 draw against their
senior side in the third match in Prague. As a result, Head Coach
Dave Stott has selected the same squad of seventeen players, plus
the inclusion of Robyn Collins, for the matches against
Ulster.
Discussing the matches this weekend, Stott was keen
to emphasise their significance in the squad’s preparations for the
EuroHockey Junior Nations Championship II in August:
“The Ulster matches, and the Celtic Cup next week,
are the last competitive matches we will have before the European
competition in Russia so the players will be tasked with building
the tempo of our play and scoring more goals from the set piece,
particularly penalty corners. The players are beginning to play
some exciting and fast-paced hockey, in particular Louise Campbell,
Ali Howie and Nicola Skrastin, as well as adopting the planned
tactics and team structure.”
“We have a competitive sequence of matches in
Russia and the players understand the importance of these
forthcoming matches to ensure we hit the ground running. We will
have some bounce games against the other Scottish junior
international sides to keep the momentum going but our focus will
be to hit the ground running in Russia next month,” said
Stott.
Unfortunately, Stott has confirmed that Kirsty
Hill, who was included in the original squad selected for this
year’s U21 performance programme, will be ruled out of
consideration for the Europeans following illness over the last
three weeks.
The Scots will encounter a revised format following
the withdrawal of two nations from the European competition.
Stott’s side will now play a round robin format, as determined by
the European Hockey Federation, including contests against Russia,
Ukraine, Lithuania, Austria and Czech Republic.
