Route to the Finals
Teams have been battling it out since last September in knockout matches for the Schools Cups, with those who lost their first-round matches going into the Plates.
Boys Cup and Plate
Strathallan’s 3-0 semi-final win against Edinburgh Academy has earned them a place in the Boys’ Cup Final. They’ll meet Fettes College, who scored a last-gasp goal in a 3-2 semi-final win against George Watson’s College.
In the Plate Final, last season’s runners-up Robert Gordon’s College are aiming to go one better against Hutchesons’ Grammar School, who have scored 14 goals on their cup run.
Girls Cup and Plate
The Girls’ final is an Edinburgh derby, with Mary Erskine School (MES) up against Edinburgh Academy. MES knocked out holders Heriots before their 2-0 semi-final win against St George’s. Edinburgh Academy beat a strong Dollar Academy team 2-0 in their semi.
Last season’s Plate winners, The Glasgow Academy, are looking to retain their trophy after seeing off Fettes 2-1 in their semi-final. They meet High School of Dundee, who knocked out Jordanhill.
Girls Challenge Cup and Plate
Kelvinside are looking to retain the Challenge Cup after their 2-0 semi-final win against Robert Gordon’s, having not conceded a goal yet. However, they’re up against Gordonstoun, who are the competition’s top scorers having netted 12 times, so it should be a thrilling contest.
In the Plate, Kilgraston, who beat Peebles 3-2 in a cracking semi-final, are up against more Borders’ opposition in the shape of Galashiels Academy. They edged out Trinity Academy 2-1 in the semi.
Aspire Cups
The Senior Aspire Cups are for state schools and others who are developing their hockey programme with a view to competing in the Schools Cups in the future. Teams qualified from tournaments in November.
In the Girls’ final, Cults Academy travel down from Aberdeen after scoring 13 goals without loss in their qualifiers. They take on Balerno High School, who beat Hawick High School on penalties in their qualifying final.
