Semi-finals for Scotland girls with win over Austria
Scotland U18 girls won Pool B at the EuroHockey Youth Championship II competition in Glasgow with an excellent performance, and win, against Austria.
Hannah McKie scored early doors for Scotland when she popped up at the back post to score. 1-0
Where in previous matches the Scots had grown into the game, Scotland looked very good early doors; Attacking, hungry for goals, and controlling the game from the first whistle. Some good early build-up for Scotland saw a good Katie Crawford’s shot blocked. Not long later and Catriona Booth shot wide from a short corner.
Austria managed to break forward and a deflection in the Scottish D saw the ball strike the post – a narrow escape for Scotland. Then Buchleitner stole the ball for Austria, surged forward, and shot just wide.
Austria, growing into the game, had another opportunity when Kleinhansl shot just wide for Austria. Good pressure by the Austrians.
Scotland’s Hanna McKie made it 2-0 after Klienhansl gave the ball away, allowing McKie to run through and slot the ball low past the goalkeeper.
Ella Watt nearly made it 3-0 but hit the post when she arrived late in the D to shoot at goal.

Mairi Fletcher pulled off an excellent save early in the second half to keep the 2-0 scoreline intact.
Just as she did in the first half, Buchleitner struck the post for Austria. Scotland got away with that one and the score remained 2-0.
Fletcher produced another outstanding save for Scotland to stop the pressing Austria. Up the other end of the pitch and a chance for Cat Booth saw her shoot just wide with the goalie beaten all-ends-up.
Through good running, Robin Robeson earned a chance to score Scotland’s third but a good save denied her. Some tremendous skill by McKie saw her breeze past a couple of players and eventually win a penalty corner. Booth fired a rocket from a penalty corner but it shot wide. A good effort from Booth who had had an assured game for the Scots.
It was a good solid performance by Scotland girls, resulting in them winning Pool B and qualifying for the semi-finals as group winners, where they will play Belarus on Friday.
