Scottish Schools Junior Cup Finals

Excitement is building ahead of the Junior Schools Cup Finals at Peffermill on Friday 11 March.  There will be six finals, starting at 10.30am, in an action-packed day of youth hockey.  You can find the schedule here: Junior Schools Finals Schedule_11Mar.

Junior Girls Cup and Plate

The Edinburgh Academy meet Fettes College in the final of the Junior Girls Cup after their hard-fought semi-final wins. Accies edged out George Watson’s College 1-0 with a penalty corner goal in the final seconds of their semi-final. This followed a 4-1 win against High School of Dundee. Fettes beat Mary Erskine’s 2-1 in a thrilling encounter, following their 2-1 quarter final win against Heriots.

It’s all-Glasgow final in the Junior Girls’ Plate, with The Glasgow Academy meeting Jordanhill School. The Academy saw off The High School of Glasgow and Glenalmond on their way to the final. And Jordanhill had two exciting 3-2 wins against Loretto and Strathallan to earn their place at finals day.

Junior Boys Cup and Plate

Fettes College have also reached the Junior Boys’ Cup Final as they seek to retain the trophy they won in 2020. Their opponents this season are George Watson’s College (GWC) in another all-Edinburgh final. Fettes have beaten Hutcheson’s, Heriot’s and Aberdeen Grammar to reach the final.  GWC beat Loretto and Strathallan before a hard-fought 1-0 win v Stewart’s Melville in the semi.

The Plate will be contest by The Edinburgh Academy and Loretto earlier in the day. Accies have had comfortable wins over Robert Gordon’s College and Strathallan; and Loretto’s win against Heriots was followed by a 2-1 semi-final win at Glenalmond.

Junior Girls Challenge Cup and Plate

Our first winners of the new Junior Girls Challenge Cup will be either Kelvinside Academy or Peebles High School. Both saw off opposition from the granite city in their semi-finals, with Kelvinside beating Robert Gordon’s 3-2; and the Borders’ girls notching an impressive 8-0 win over Aberdeen Grammar.

The inaugural Challenge Plate Final will be between Wellington School and St Columba’s, both of whom will be appearing in their first schools finals. Wellington have had to do it the hard way with a 4-2 win on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Galashiels Academy, followed by a 2-1 semi-final win against Marr College in a thrilling Ayrshire derby. Sadly, Gordonstoun had to concede their semi-final to St Columba’s and give the Kilmacolm girls their place at finals day.
