Scottish Schools Cups Semi-Final Draws
Things are hotting up in the Scottish Schools Cups, and we now know our semi-finalists in most competitions. In spite of bad weather causing a lot of postponements, schools have done a great job to play their quarter finals.
The semi-final draws for all competitions can be found here: Scottish Schools Cup Semi-Final Draws.
The stakes are high, as teams compete to play in the cup finals at Glasgow National Hockey Centre:
- Junior Schools Cup & Plate Finals – Friday 8 March
- Senior Schools Cup & Plate Finals – Friday 15 March
The few outstanding quarter finals will be played by mid-January, and the ‘play-by’ date for all semi-finals is 24 February.
Senior Boys Cup
Holders, Fettes College beat Stewart’s Melville 3-1 to earn a semi-final against Loretto, who knocked out George Heriots.
In the other semi, Hutchesons’ GS will host Edinburgh Academy, conquerors of Strathallan. Hutchesons’ beat Robert Gordon’s 4-3 win on penalties in Aberdeen.
Senior Girls Cup
George Watson’s College will meet holders Edinburgh Academy in the Senior Girls semi-final. GWC beat Kelvinside 3-1, and EA edged The Glasgow Academy on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
After beating Mary Erskine’s 2-0, Dollar Academy are awaiting the winners of the postponed Jordanhill v George Heriot’s match.
Senior Girls Challenge Cup
The semi-final line-up in the Senior Girls Challenge Cup won’t be known until the two postponed quarter-finals are played. North Berwick’s superb 2-1 win at St Aloysius gives them a home tie against St Columba’s or Boroughmuir HS.
Selkirk HS will play Peebles HS or Robert Gordon’s in the Borders.
Junior Boys Cup
The Junior Boys Cup sees Merchiston Castle meet Edinburgh Academy; and George Watson’s College host Fettes College. No long journeys for those teams!
Merchiston beat Grove Academy; and Edinburgh Academy knocked out Loretto. GWC beat Stewart’s Melville 2-0; and Fettes knocked out Jordanhill in Glasgow.
Junior Girls Cup
St George’s reward for a great 3-2 win against Fettes is a semi-final against St Columba’s or Edinburgh Academy.
Mary Erskine’s knocked out Kelvinside to set up a home semi-final against holders, George Watson’s College, who beat The Glasgow Academy 2-0. That promises to be a cracking Edinburgh derby!
Junior Girls Challenge Cup
Morrison’s Academy will host Jordanhill in the first semi-final. The Crieff girls had a very good win in Glasgow against St Aloysius; and Jordanhill knocked out Kelso HS.
In the other semi, North Berwick HS will travel to Robert Gordon’s. The East Lothian girls had a good win against Wellington, and the Aberdonians beat Galashiels Academy.
Plate Competitions
The semi-final line-up for all six Plate competitions is now complete, with one exception – Strathallan v Loretto in the Junior Boys Plate.
Pick of the games was Earlston’s win against Wellington School in the Senior Girls Challenge Plate. After a 3-3 draw, it took 8 rounds of penalties before the Borderers finally won on ‘sudden death’.
The draw is available via the link at the top of the page, and all results can be found on the Scottish Hockey website via the links below.
