Scottish Schools’ Cups Semi-Final Draws

This season’s Scottish Schools’ Cup matches are continuing to provide loads of great excitement and entertainment across the country. All the Cup semi-final line-ups are now decided, along with all the quarter-finals for the Plate competitions.

Senior Boys Schools Cup

In the Senior Boys’ Cup quarter-finals, Fettes College had a successful trip to Aberdeen where they edged Robert Gordon’s College 2-1 in a very tight and entertaining game. Fettes will play Hutchies in the semi-final after the Glasgow boys beat Perth High School 4-1.

The other semi-final will be between Edinburgh Academy and George Watson’s College. Accies beat Stewart’s Melville 3-2 in a cracking cup-tie; and Watson’s eased past Glenalmond 8-0.

Plate Quarter-Finals:  Perth High School v Strathallan; Glenalmond v Merchiston Castle; Robert Gordon’s College v Stewart’s Melville College; Boroughmuir/Balerno (Bye to semi).

Senior Girls Schools Cup

The Senior Girls quarter finals were equally exciting. George Heriot’s School held their nerve to win a penalty shoot-out against The High School of Glasgow after 1-1 draw at full-time. They will play co-holders, Mary Erskine’s after the Ravelston girls came back from 0-2 down to beat Edinburgh Academy 5-2 in a thrilling contest.

Jordanhill edged High School of Dundee 2-1 in Glasgow to set up a semi-final against Dollar Academy. George Watson’s College’s cup run ended with a 1-2 defeat at Dollar in a very tight game.

Senior Girls Challenge Cup

The new Challenge Cup continues to provide superb matches, including Kelvinside’s 3-1 win v Morrison’s Academy in Glasgow. Trinity Academy put up a great fight in Aberdeen against St Margaret’s but ultimately went down 0-2. Robert Gordon’s reward for beating Galashiels Academy 4-1 is a long trip to Ayrshire to play Wellington, who beat Peebles 3-0.

Plate Quarter-Finals: Peebles High School v Marr College; Galashiels Academy v Lomond School; Trinity Academy v Earlston HS; Morrison’s Academy v Gordonstoun (Played: 4-2 to Morrison’s).

Junior Boys Schools Cup

The Junior Boys’ semi-finals promise to be two exciting matches.  George Watson’s College will host Stewart’s Melville College in an Edinburgh derby after the Colinton Road boys won 4-0 at Strathallan.  Stewart’s Melville beat Edinburgh Academy 3-2 at the third time of asking after two weather-related cancellations.

In the other semi, Aberdeen Grammar School’s impressive 5-0 win v Glenalmond has earned them a trip to play Fettes College, who beat Heriot’s 3-1.

Junior Girls Schools Cup 

The Junior Girls Cup gives a lot of young players their first experience of a national competition, and all of this season’s quarter finals have been crackers. Fettes College’s 2-1 win against Heriot’s has earned them a home tie against Mary Erskine’s, who also won 2-1 v St George’s.

George Watson’s College won 3-1 away at Dollar Academy and will meet Edinburgh Academy in the semis after they beat High School of Dundee 4-1 at home. This ensures that the Cup will be heading back to Edinburgh … but who will come out on top? It’s too tight to call.

Junior Girls Challenge Cup

In the new Junior Girls’ Challenge Cup, Robert Gordon’s College beat Gordonstoun 3-0 in a North-East derby. And Kelvinside continued their good form with a 2-0 v St Columba’s.  There were walkover wins for Peebles and Aberdeen Grammar, and they have already played their semi-final, with the Borders girls winning 8-0 (pictured). Congratulations to Peebles on being our first 2021-22 finalists.
