Senior Girls Schools Cup

High School of Dundee and Jordanhill will meet in the Senior Girls Cup quarter final after both recorded 1-0 wins over Glenalmond and Loretto respectively.  Dollar Academy’s 2-0 win over The Glasgow Academy has set up a big game against George Watson’s College.  After edging Fettes College 2-1, Mary Erskine’s will play a local derby v The Edinburgh Academy, who beat St George’s School 2-1 on penalties. And George Heriots’ 6-0 win v Hutchesons GS earns them a home tie against The High School of Glasgow.

Senior Boys Schools Cup

In the Senior Boys’ competition, Edinburgh Academy’s big win over Glasgow Academy has set up a hotly anticipated tie with Stewart’s Melville. Hutchesons’ reward for knocking out the holders, Loretto 3-2 is a home tie against Perth High School. George Watsons College’s 2-1 win over Strathallan sets up a home tie v Glenalmond College. And Robert Gordon’s College’s hard-fought 3-1 win against Boroughmuir/Balerno means they’ll host Fettes College.

This match epitomised what the Schools’ cups are all about. Boroughmuir/Balerno, making their debut in the competition, laid on a ‘feast’ for the boys from Aberdeen after their long journey to Edinburgh. Graham Stuart, Head of Hockey at RGC, commented, “It was a fantastic game played at an excellent standard. However, it was the hospitality and kindness we were shown that really stood out to me, the staff and players.”

Senior Girls Challenge Cup

In the new Challenge Cup, Wellington School’s win over Gordonstoun means they’ll host Peebles High School. And Kelvinside Academy’s 2-1 away win v Marr College sets up a tie with Morrison’s Academy. There are 2 remaining first round matches: Galashiels Academy and Earlston play their Borders’ derby this week; and Lomond School play their rearranged tie against St Margaret’s, with Trinity Academy lying in wait.

Junior Girls Schools Cup

In the Junior Girls Cup, The Edinburgh Academy’s 2-1 victory over The High School of Glasgow sets up a tie with High School of Dundee, 3-1 victors over The Glasgow Academy. In a repeat of the Senior Cup, Dollar Academy will host George Watson’s College after they both recorded big wins away at Glenalmond and Morrison’s respectively. Fettes College’s 6-1 win v Jordanhill in Glasgow earns them a home tie against George Heriots, conquerors of Loretto. And in an Edinburgh derby, Mary Erskine’s win at Strathallan sets up a tie with holders St George’s, who edged Hutchesons’ 3-2 on penalties.

Junior Boys Schools Cup

Glenalmond’s 4-3 win on penalties against Robert Gordon’s means they’ll play another granite city opponent, Aberdeen Grammar School, in the Junior Boys’ Cup. Holders, Fettes College won 3-0 in Glasgow v Hutchesons’ and will meet George Heriots. Strathallan’s match with George Watson’s College should be a close game. And Stewart’s Melville’s win over Merchiston Castle means they’ll play The Edinburgh Academy in a repeat of the Senior Boys’ Cup.

Junior Girls Challenge Cup

In the preliminary round of the new Junior Girls’ Challenge Cup, Kelvinside’s win at Wellington gives them a home tie with St Columba’s School. Gordonstoun’s 3-0 win v Galashiels sets up a tie with Robert Gordon’s. And Peebles High School’s 6-0 win at Lomond catapults them straight into the semi-finals following St Margaret’s withdrawal.

Plate Competitions

All of those who have lost in the first round drop into the Plate competitions. Every team therefore still has a chance of playing in this season’s finals at Peffermill on Friday 11 March (Junior) and Friday 18 March (Senior).

Good luck to all teams.
