Scottish Masters target Home Countries International Championship win in Swansea
The Scottish Masters (over 40s) and Senior Masters (over
50s) commence a busy summer schedule of international hockey this
weekend when they compete at the Home Countries International
Championship in Swansea on 23-24 July.
The Senior Masters have won the competition twice in the last
five years and are aiming to be crowned British champions in 2011
as they prepare for the European and World Masters’ tournaments in
August and October this year.
Looking forward to the challenge ahead, Coach George Guy, a
veteran of many international tournaments, said:
“This tournament is of a very high standard and an important
part of the Senior Masters competition schedule this summer,
particularly with the European and World events coming up later
this year. Traditionally, England is our toughest match and whoever
wins this normally goes on to win the competition. We’ve only lost
to them twice in the last five years so we’re confident of our
chances.”
Scottish Hockey Chief Executive Robert Heatly caught up with the
Senior Masters last weekend at Meggatland as they played a
training match against CALA.
“It was great to meet the players and discuss this summer’s
competitions with them. I enjoyed watching their training match and
wish them well for the championship this weekend.”
The Senior Masters begin with matches against Wales and Ireland
on Saturday, before they play England on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Masters play Ireland and England on Saturday
before their final match against Wales on Sunday.
