Scottish Hockey to restructure in light of Performance Review recommendations
Following the release of an independent Performance Review this year, Scottish Hockey’s Chief Executive and Board of Directors have undertaken an appraisal of the organisation and its current staffing structure.
The organisation will be restructured as follows:

The implications of the restructure include:
- A newly formed Leadership Group to include the Chief Executive and two newly created senior positions; Head of Performance and Head of Domestic Game. Recruitment for these two positions will begin today with the advertisement of the roles and invite for candidate applications.
- The Head of Performance will create, lead and deliver the Performance Strategy, with a real focus on building a strong performance environment, improving current systems, benchmarking for success, and creating a culture that produces world class players and teams.
- The Head of Domestic Game will create, lead and deliver the development and growth targets as part of the ‘Hockey in Scotland’ strategic plan, including delivering the vision of stronger clubs and increasing membership. The individual will provide strategic direction for the domestic game programmes, including leading the organisation’s development, competitions and coaching teams.
- The Performance Manager and Development Manager positions will not continue from the current structure. The departing Operations Manager will not be replaced. An Office Administrator role will be added.

The Chief Executive and Board of Directors will also establish two sub-groups:
- A High Performance Group that will be responsible for strategic direction of effective performance systems and the delivery of performance outcomes.
- A Commercial sub-group to focus on generating income and investment.
Both groups will report directly to the Board of Directors.
Scottish Hockey Chair Scott Baird said, “Following the reduction in sportscotland funding for our performance programmes, the subsequent Performance Review outlined that we needed to improve our structure, systems and processes from the top to the bottom of the organisation.
“It also set out a ‘gold standard’ for the organisation, with important areas to address and make improvements within.
“We have concluded that we require the creation of two senior leadership roles; one that will have strategic focus on improving high performance results, and one that will focus on growing the sport across all facets of membership and participation.
“The High Performance Group will also be revised to offer strategic support for the new Head of Performance, while the commercial sub-group will set out a clear strategy to improve our income streams and commercial potential.
“We consider these steps as vital to improving the effectiveness of the organisation and to start achieving the results and ambitions for hockey in Scotland.”
