Scottish Hockey statement in response to Herald article on 7 December

Following a statement made by a representative of Kelburne Hockey Club regarding domestic competitions in the Herald on Saturday 7 December, Scottish Hockey wishes to clarify the following:
During the 2012-13 season, Scottish Hockey engaged in an extensive consultation process with our stakeholders regarding domestic competitions, including the concept of introducing end of season play-offs to determine both the league winners and European qualifiers in National League Division 1.
To confirm, a number of principles for domestic competitions were agreed by a majority of member clubs at the 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June, including the concept of implementing play-offs to determine the winners of National League Division 1 and European qualifiers.
Scottish Hockey notes that Kelburne Hockey Club offered an alternative proposal at this AGM, which was their right as a member club, but this was not supported.
As a result, Scottish Hockey implemented a new domestic competitions structure that was accepted by the members at the AGM.
To label the decision “as nothing short of a disgrace” is both an unfair and unwarranted statement towards the members of Scottish Hockey who voted for the new domestic competitions structure.
At this point, Scottish Hockey would like to acknowledge the continuing positive feedback received from a number of people in the sport, including club representatives, regarding the new competition structure implemented this season.
