Scottish Hockey statement in response to Herald article
Scottish Hockey notes the comments made by a representative of Clydesdale Western Hockey Club in today’s Herald.
During the 2012-13 season, Scottish Hockey engaged in an extensive consultation process with a number of stakeholders regarding domestic competitions, including marketing/promotion, the concept of central venue events, development opportunities for players/coaches/officials, play-offs and league structures, amongst other things.
To confirm, a unanimous vote was passed at the 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM) when a majority of clubs discussed and agreed to new proposals for domestic competitions, including the concept of staging National League Division 1 fixtures at a central venue in order to create events for clubs, players, coaches, officials and spectators.
As with all clubs, Clydesdale Western Hockey Club had the opportunity to raise objections to this concept at the AGM.
Scottish Hockey received no such objections to this particular concept from Clydesdale Western Hockey Club before or during the AGM meeting.
To re-iterate, the concept of staging National League Division 1 events at a central venue was to:
- Build interest in the sport leading up to the Commonwealth Games next summer
- Generate training and development opportunities for clubs, coaches and officials e.g. seminars
- Attract members and spectators to a central venue to watch the best domestic hockey matches in Scotland
- Provide opportunities for sponsors and commercial partners to activate their relationships with hockey
All National League Division 1 clubs will have an equitable opportunity to play at these events.
In addition, next weekend’s event will also be streamed live by Quipu TV, giving members a great opportunity to view the games online.
