Scottish Hockey extends Lee Cousins’ tenure as President
Scottish Hockey is pleased to announce that its Board of
Directors has agreed an extension to the tenure of Lee Cousins as
President for one year.
In accordance with the Articles of Association, the Executive
President is elected from amongst the Board members and this is
normally for a four year term. At the Board Meeting in
February, the tenure of Board members was considered and a twelve
month extension has been made in the interests of providing
continuity to the Glasgow Green ‘Home for Hockey’ project, which
will include leading the planning for the move to Glasgow and the
running of the legacy facility, and office stability following
recent staff movement.
The start point of the President’s tenure has also been amended
in respect of the role played on the Great Britain Hockey Board. A
major duty of this post is to be a knowledgeable and effective part
of the performance review of the planning, effectiveness and
outcome of the four year Olympic Games cycle with respect to GB
Hockey. As a result, it was decided that the change to the
President should not be made in the Olympic year.
Denis Robertson-Sullivan, Chairman of the Board,
said:
“The decision was unanimous of those present and was all about
continuity. Under our current succession, the newly appointed
President goes into the post-Olympic process immediately on
appointment and thus in a less than ideal position to add
value.”
“We agreed that this term should start in the calendar year
after an Olympic Games. While this explains the long term
position of the appointment, other more immediate factors of
continuity include the key role that Lee is playing in the our
planned move to the new Hockey Centre in Glasgow Green in 2013 and
his support to the office in view of the turnover of key staff over
the last 12 months.”
Lee Cousins, President, said:
“I am delighted that the Board of Directors has asked me to
continue as President of Scottish Hockey for a further year till
2013.”
