Scottish Hockey Appoints Vikki Strachan (formerly Bunce) as New Lead Manager – Performance

Scottish Hockey is delighted to announce the appointment of former international Vikki Strachan as its new Lead Manager – Performance in a seconded role for the next 18 months. Strachan brings over 20 years of exceptional experience from across the high-performance sporting system, uniquely combining her history as a Scotland

and Great Britain hockey player, a national team coach, and a performance leader within sportscotland.

A highly motivated and values-driven professional, Strachan possesses an unparalleled understanding of the performance pathway from all angles. Her proven track record across high-performance sport is defined by strategic and operational planning, partnership working, and leading inter-disciplinary teams to achieve sustained success.

Her extensive experience managing high-performance systems with sportscotland, combined with her intimate knowledge of what it takes to succeed at the highest level in hockey, makes her the perfect person to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to shape the future of performance in Scotland. She embodies the integrated, collaborative approach we know is key and required to achieving our ambitious goals.”

In her most recent role as High Performance Manager at sportscotland, Strachan contributes to the strategic and operational performance planning with national governing bodies, ensuring alignment with global standards and best practice. She brings this system-wide expertise back to hockey, alongside her operational experience as General Team Manager for Team Scotland at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Strachan’s appointment represents a homecoming of sorts. She served as an Assistant Coach for the Scottish Women’s senior programme from 2018 to 2023, contributing to campaigns including the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022. Her understanding of the athlete experience is deeply personal: she earned 204 caps for Scotland, competing in three Commonwealth Games (2006, 2010, 2014), World Cups and multiple European Championships. She also earned 14 caps for Great Britain and was part of the centralised programme for the London 2012 Olympics.

Vikki Strachan will assume her new role from 1st September 2025.
