Scots relegated in Europeans
EUROPEAN INDOOR NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS 11 – LIGNANO
(ITALY) – FRIDAY 13TH – SUNDAY 15TH JANUARY
2012
SCOTLAND 1 SLOVAKIA 2
Scotland unfortunately came bottom of the relegation pool after
losing 2-1 to Slovakia in the final match of the European Indoor
Nations Championships in Lignano and will play in the third
division in two years time.
Even before their final game against Slovakia, the Scots knew
their fate as Italy managed a 2-2 draw with Belarus, ensuring both
sides survival.
Scotland were always chasing the game in this final encounter
and fell behind to a Slovakian penalty corner in 11 minutes.
The contest was effectively over when Slovakia doubled their lead
mid-way through the second half, leaving Ross McPherson`s open play
goal to be little more than a consolation.
