Scots lose out to Ireland
Scotland Women lost their second international match against Ireland in Newtownabbey this afternoon, going down 2-0 to the hosts.
As a result, the Scots are now 2-0 down in the three match series with Ireland establishing an unassailable position.
Scotland Head Coach Gordon Shepherd and his side will now hope they can pull one game back tomorrow when the two sides meet again for the final match of the series.
After the match, Shepherd said, “We played with intensity and commitment for sixty out of the seventy minutes. A loss of concentration and defensive structure caused us to lose two goals. Again the score flatters to deceive.”
Following a goal-less first half in which both sides had goal-scoring opportunities, it was Ireland who opened the scoring through Anna O’Flanaghan in the 64th minute; a long ball from inside the Irish half took a wicked deflection, wrong footing the Scottish defence to leave the Irish attacker with an easy scoring opportunity.
Shortly afterwards, Scotland found themselves 2-0 down when O’Flanaghan avoided some desperate defensive tackling to off-load a pass to Frazer who coolly slapped a shot low into the Scottish goal to double the home side’s advantage in the 65th minute.
Although the visitors had opportunities to get back into the match, Ireland held out for the win and ultimately, a series clinching success.
