Scotland’s Women lose 3 – 1 against Wales
Scotland went down 3-1 to Wales in the first of the non-capped games at Auchenhowie, part of the preparations for the World Cup Qualifier in Pisa at the end of next month.
The Scots found themselves a goal down in the first half when Wales converted a penalty corner.
Chris Duncan’s charges then dominated proceedings in the early part of the second half. However, the visitors doubled their tally with a goal that was somewhat against the run of play.
The Scots finally pulled one back, in a counter attack down the left side. The ball was picked up by Sarah Jamieson in the circle, her effort at goal was blocked by the Welsh keeper, but Charlotte Watson was on hand to net the rebound.
The Scots were now clearly on top, searching for the equaliser, but it was Wales who scored in the final quarter from a penalty corner, for the conclusive final goal.
Scotland head coach Chris Duncan said: ” It was a positive performance after seven weeks training. We won the two matches against the Great Britain Elite Development Squad, but it was different playing an international team at full strength. We were nervous at the start and went into our shell in the first quarter, but that is a learning curve.
However, we reacted well in the second half and dominated the game at that point, but we must learn to play our own game from the first whistle. So our task is to do that tomorrow and hope to record a win.”
