Scotland women’s squad to face Canada in Glasgow
The Scotland Women’s squad to play Canada at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre has been announced. The squad includes six players earning their first senior international cap – Ellie Mackenzie; Katie Swanson; Amber Murray; Katherine Holdgate; Zara Kennedy; and Rebecca Birch.
Four matches, the first two of which are capped, will played on Saturday 25 May at 15:30; Sunday 26 May at 14:30; Tuesday 28 May at 19:30; and Wednesday 29 May at 19:30.
Scotland last played Canada, who are ranked one place above the Scots at 16th in the FIH world rankings, at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 with the Canadians clocking up a 3-1 win and claiming fifth spot at the Games.
Also playing over the weekend is Scotland U21 Women in three matches against Ireland U21 Women as they prepare for U21 EuroHockey Championship II in Konya, Turkey, this July.
Scotland Women Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “Canada is an excellent side who are playing in the Nations Cup so will be quality opposition to test ourselves against. These games come at a great time in our programme, after great tests against Spain and Wales already this year and a really pleasing training phase.
“This group has six new caps, and we are thrilled for the individuals who will gain that honour of representing their country at senior level. We are pleased with the development of the whole group and have an immense volume of trust in the team selected to deliver our philosophy and style in these contests.
“With numerous players still involved with Great Britain, and players unavailable, it’s also a brilliant opportunity for others to lead the team, which will be so impactful for development towards our long-term goals.”
