Scotland women’s squad selected for World Cup Qualifier

The Scotland Women’s National Team squad for the FIH World Cup Qualifier in Hyderabad, India, has been announced.

18 players and 2 travelling reserves have been selected for the tournament taking place on 8 February to 14 March.

At the World Cup Qualifier, Scotland will play Wales on Sunday 8 March; India on Monday 9 March; and Uruguay on Wednesday 11 March before the latter stages of the tournament.

Competing alongside Scotland in India will be England; India; Scotland; Korea; Italy; Uruguay; Wales; and Austria. The teams finishing first, second, and third will secure their place at next year’s FIH World Cup. The highest world-ranked team among those finishing in fourth place in each event will be the seventh team to qualify.

Preparation for the tournament has been positive for Scotland with two draws against Spain, a team ranked fifth in the world and has already qualified for the World Cup after winning bronze at the EuroHockey Championship in 2025.

The Scots ended 2025 with a 2-1 victory over Ireland in Dublin to round off an excellent year for the team that included a fifth place finish at Nations Cup in Chile, which boosted the team into 15th in the FIH world rankings in March, and then a sixth spot finish at the EuroHockey Championship in Monchengladbach back in August. The Scots are now 14th in the world.

Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “Following a really pleasing 2025 campaign, the group has worked hard in the build up to the World Cup Qualifiers to develop some of our identified areas from our performance last year. This phase is always a challenge when balancing domestic hockey calendars and the whole squad has been magnificent at supporting each other through this phase. The commitment to developing our own style has been steadfast, and the development of the whole group through this phase has been fantastic to see.

“Our games against Belgium, Ireland and Spain have been great build up and given our focus areas a great opportunity to be tested, and our preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers has been thorough. We are now looking forward to getting out to India and will enjoy putting the final touches on our preparation in the next three weeks ahead of that.

“I know that the squad selected for this tournament will represent the entire squad that has worked so hard in preparation with passion, and pride, as we look to further display our ability on the world stage.”
