Scotland women’s squad selected for EuroHockey Championships
The Scotland women’s squad has been announced for the EuroHockey Championships, sponsored by Rabobank, in Amsterdam on 4-13 June.
When Scotland women take to the pitch in Amsterdam’s Wagener Stadium it’ll be a deserved return to the top-flight of European hockey after their sensation gold medal success in Glasgow, at EuroHockey Championship II 2019.
Scotland’s tournament gets underway on Saturday 5 June when the Scots take on Spain before a contest against Ireland on Monday 7 June, and their final pool match against the Netherlands on Wednesday 9 June. Following the pool section the tournament enters its latter stages where final standings will be confirmed.
Great Britain internationalists Sarah Robertson, Amy Costello, Charlotte Watson and Emily Dark will wear the blue of Scotland in Amsterdam, and youngster Bronwyn Shields will make her first appearance at an international tournament for the Tartan Hearts.
McKenzie Bell and Laura Swanson are also set for their first appearances at a major tournament for Scotland at senior level; a great opportunity on the biggest stage.
Scotland’s matches will be shown live on BT Sport and on EuroHockey TV and more information about the EuroHockey Championships can be found HERE.
Scotland Head coach Jen Wilson said, “For many reasons final selection for this year’s European Championships has certainly been tougher than ever before. We have had to adapt our process and timeline significantly however I can only thank the entire squad for their dedication, commitment and most importantly, their adaptability. This meant we were still able to have numerous tough selection decisions ahead of the final team announcement. We have no doubt that this event will be challenging, but having earned the opportunity to represent Scotland at European A division we know that this group of players will continue the journey they are on, to relentlessly challenge nations ranked above us.
“I would like to thank Scottish Hockey, sportscotland and the National Lottery for their continued support and really magnify our gratitude to our sponsors, BOHO and Grahams Dairy, as without their support and provision these opportunities would not be available or possible for our squad.
“After a challenging fifteen months for many nations, it certainly highlights the imperative need for support in women’s sport, which allows part time athletes the chance to compete against the best full-time athletes in the world; a tough ask but one that this incredible group of role models chase daily alongside their work commitments and studies.”
