Scotland women win 3-1 against Wales at Peffermill

Scotland women won the second match of their two-match series with Wales 3-1 at Peffermill. It follows yesterday’s 6-0 win.

It was a very close and competitive opening quarter with both sides working hard to create openings against stubborn defences.

Scotland knocked at the door with some good connecting moves but the Welsh defence was organised and kept the attacks at bay.

Wales created a good opportunity in the second quarter on the counter attack but the Scottish defence recovered well to clear the danger.

The opening goal was a moment of magic. Katie Robertson fired a low shot into the net after great build up by Sarah Jamieson. Jamieson swivelled and weaved through the Wales midfield and defence before playing Robertson through on goal to finish. 1-0.

Robertson nearly bagged a second moments later when she dived in to scoop a zipped pass into the circle just over the bar.

Then came an exceptional goal by Sarah Jamieson. Jamieson fired an absolute screamer into the top corner to make it 2-0 from a tight angle.

In the third quarter Wales went hunting for goals but found Amber Murray in goal for Scotland in great form. Murray made an exceptional triple save to deny a great chance for Wales.

Wales were soon rewarded for their pressure when they pulled one back from a penalty corner to make it 2-1 to Scotland.

Jika Nyirenda came close to scoring a third for Scotland in the final quarter but the ball was scooped clear on the line. Jamieson was also denied as Scotland turned the screw.

The third goal came soon enough and it was Jamieson who made it 3-1 by finishing off a penalty corner routine. Jamieson was the injector, and after an exchange with Fran Lonergan, the broke to Jamieson to finish.

The goal brought another solid performance to a conclusion with nine goals scored over the two games.
