Scotland women to face Australia and China in the Netherlands
Scotland women travel to the Netherlands for back-to-back two match series against Australia and China. The matches form part of the team’s preparation for the EuroHockey Championships in Monchengladbach in August.
On Tuesday 13 June Scotland play Australia at Oranje Rood HC in Eindhoven at 8pm, before they meet again on Wednesday 14 June at 6pm.
Then on Friday 16 June and Saturday 17 June Scotland face China at 11am at Pinoke HC in Amstelveen.
At the EuroHockey Championships in Monchengladbach, Germany, Scotland will play in Group B against England; Germany; and Ireland, while the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Italy meet in Group A.
The Scots have played two competitive test series already this year against Ireland and Wales, and now look forward to challenging matches against World number three ranked Australia, and top ten ranked China.
Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “As our programme ramps up towards the summer period, we have a brilliant opportunity to test our development against two of the world’s top ten sides. Australia, who are ranked third and one of the most powerful and dominant sides in world hockey, and China who are a top ten nation and developing rapidly under their new leadership.
“For us, with the Pro League not yet completed, we do not have access to our Great Britain squad players, which provides an opportunity for others in our squad to not only stake a claim for selection this summer, but to experience the standard required to compete with the top ten in world hockey. Our aspiration is to become one of these teams long term, and the continued exposure to elite level competition will enable us to continue towards that ambition.
“As part of our journey, it is important that we continue to commit to playing our new style as we look to embed ‘The Scotland Way’ into our team and pathway, and the mind set to be aggressive, and attack minded, is something that we want to show against both sides we will come up against whilst in Holland. Our concentration will be challenged, and that is something we are looking forward to – to have this level of competition as we gear up for the European Championships in August is sensational, and a step in the right direction of where we want to be as a nation.”
