Scotland Women lose to Chile in Dublin
Scotland Women lost their final game of the 4-Nations tournament in Dublin 3-1 to Chile.
Head Coach Gordon Shepherd said that despite the competition being a great learning experience for his team the result was a poor way to end the tournament, and that the performance was not up to standard on this occasion.
The game was even until Chile surged to a 3-0 lead with goals from Francisca Tala, Sofia Walbaum, and Francisca Pizzaro. Scotland pulled one back with the last touch of the game.
Scotland’s goal came from Amy Costello, scoring her first goal for her country with a direct strike from a penalty corner routine. For Costello the goal marks another milestone in her development in international hockey.
Chile didn’t change tactics in any way from the previous meeting, which ended 0-0, the result was more a case of Scotland not performing the way they wanted to.
Shepherd said all-in-all it was an enjoyable camp that gave good exposure to top-level hockey to a number of players. The young players in particular learned a lot from the tournament and the experience will contribute to their development in a Scotland jersey.
