Scotland U21 Women continue their Konya winning streak ahead of final
It was a 4-0 victory over Turkey for Scotland U21 Women in Konya as they continued their 100% winning streak ahead of tomorrow’s U21 Women’s EuroHockey Championship II Final against Ukraine.
Scotland dominated the play in a somewhat scrappy first half. The Scots had lots of the ball around the Turkey circle but were unable to create many clean chances to shoot at goal.
Lexie McMillan came closest, and thought she’d found the net, but was denied by a sensational goal line clearance to keep Scotland at bay.
As the game got older Scotland took more control and began to strut their stuff. Anna McWilliams and Neave Halliday were consistent from the back with good distribution; Ava Findlay was dominant in screen; while Ellie Rutherford and Cara Falconer were a constant threat. The forward line in general were tireless.
Eventually, in the third quarter, Scotland got the goal they deserved. An Ava Wadsworth rebound finish from penalty corner into the bottom left corner made it 1-0.
In the final quarter the goals began to flow. A sublime team goal saw Scotland carve Turkey up down the left, for Ava Smith to finish after a surge in from an angle to make it 2-0.
Then it was Mhairi Low’s turn to convert from a neat cutback to the penalty spot with a sliding low effort to make it 3-0.
Keira Foster rounded off the scoring when she pounced onto the ball to strike home and make it 4-0 at full time. Next up, Ukraine in the final and the chance to qualify for the Junior World Cup.
