Scotland U21 squads ready for test series matches

Scotland U21 women take on Wales U21 women in a three-match test series at Peffermill this weekend, while Scotland U21 men are away to England at Loughborough University.

Scotland U21 men take to the pitch at 18:30 on Thursday 6 April; 16:30 on Friday 7 April and 11:00 on Sunday 9 April.

The Scotland U21 women’s first game takes place on Friday night at 19:00; before the two meet at 16:00 on Saturday and 12:00 on Sunday.

The series marks the very first steps towards U21 EuroHockey Championship II in 2024, and the aim to regain a place at the top table of European hockey.

Scotland U21 Women’s Head Coach Neil Menzies said, “From my perspective the U21 games mark the beginning of a process, working towards the Euros in 2024.

“We have players away with the U19s to Belgium where they will get fantastic experience playing against to European countries (Lucy Brown, Nicola Fletcher, Zara Kennedy, and Amy Grissom). That in turn has given more opportunity for other players to benefit from three games against the Welsh U21s at Peffermill.

“Then we will have a full-on summer program where all these players will have the chance to develop their game and get some more competitive experience.”

“Unfortunately we will be missing a number of players who are not available to us at this time. Ava Smith is on the comeback trail, having been forced to take time out through serious injury, but these matches have arrived a little too soon for her to be able to take part.

“Ellie Rutherford, and Ellie Barlow both study in the USA and are not able to make it back for Easter. This has meant that we have been able to offer development opportunities to a couple of Keith Smith’s Aspiring Squad in Rebecca Gordon and Marissa MacLean.

“There are also cameo appearances for a small number of the younger members of the development squad.”
