Scotland U21 Men’s squad announced for Ghent
The Scotland U21 men’s squad has been announced for the Junior EuroHockey Championships in Ghent this month.
The Scots will take to the pitch to face England; Spain and Belgium in Pool A as they bid to retain their position at the top table of European hockey, and earn a history making place at the Junior World Cup.
Austria; France; Germany and the Netherlands form Pool B and the final stages will see the Scots come up against teams from the Pool depending on placings.
Scotland U21 men have had a great year so far, most recently defeating the USA senior squad in the last of a three match series, and a victory over Ireland U21 men in a two-match series.
The young Scots also enjoyed a recent series victory over Wales U21 men in the build up to Ghent.
England will be Scotland’s first opponents in Ghent when they meet on 24 July at 14:30; then it’s Spain on 26 July at 15:30; before the final pool match against Belgium on 27 July at 14:30.
Head Coach Graham Moodie said, ‘We know how tough it’s going to be to stay in the top division and qualify for the Junior World Cup, but it’s a fantastic opportunity that we’ve given ourselves. All the players have worked extremely hard over the last 12 months to prepare for this tournament and we’re looking forward to taking to the pitch and giving it our all.’
