Scotland U21 men win final test match with England in a shootout
Scotland U21 Men faced England for the third and final time today in Loughborough rounding up the series with a 2-2 draw at full time before going on to win the final shootout 4-3.
England were first to get on the scoreboard in quarter one with a shot from the top of the circle after good play down the left. The Scots didn’t let this rattle them and took back control in the second quarter when Ali Douglas bagged the equaliser. Scotland’s Keir Robb and Matt Hughson were working hard to create chances whilst the team dominated England but the closest chance seen Fraser Moran hit the post.
England kicked off the third quarter with an early field goal equalising the score.
Scotland continued to hold off a forceful England whilst pushing for another goal. England’s goalkeeper denied several chances for Scotland to get ahead. In the final minute of the game, both teams had good chances, but the final score was 2-2.
After the game, the teams played running penalties which saw the Scots come out on top 4-3 with Nic Hadland in goal.
Scotland U21 Men Head Coach Rhett Halkett said “It has been a really great series and the team should be very proud of themselves. The results from this series are a great achievement for the team with the short amount of time to prepare.”
