Scotland U21 men lose close match to Ireland in Dublin.
Despite a positive performance Scotland U21 men lost 2-1 to Ireland in a close match in Dublin. It follows Scotland’s 3-1 victory the previous day.
The Scots played well, and started strong, enjoying the first half action on top.
There were a number of chances for goals; two corners were mis-trapped and closed down and a few open play chances came close.
Pete Caughey had a backhand effort of note that almost found the net as Scotland turned the screw looking for the opener.
Keir Robb also swung an effort towards goal but missed.
Up the other end one blocked shot for Ireland was the only threat to Scotland’s goal before half time.
Into the second half and an Ireland drag flick saw them go 1-0 ahead.
In the final quarter Scotland scored. Euan Burgess did well on the baseline to find Robb in space to finish into an open goal for 1-1.
Immediately after Scotland’s goal Ireland restored their lead to go 2-1 ahead.
After their second goal Ireland managed the game well and saw the game out to a 2-1 victory.
Head Coach Graham Moodie said, “I’m pretty positive about the performance. We played some good stuff but just didn’t take our chances and ended up losing the match. But it’s in two weeks’ time where we need to win our matches, so today is a good learning step and we’ll go into the Euros with confidence in our performances.”
