Scotland U18 Girls target European promotion in Spain
Scotland U18 Girls are targeting success at the EuroHockey U18 Championship II next week, which takes place in Santander, Spain from 8-14 July.
The Scots will face hosts Spain in a warm-up match this weekend, before taking on Poland and Italy in Pool A of the competition. Pool B is made up Belarus, Czech Republic, Spain and Ukraine.
The top two sides from each pool will progress to cross-over matches to determine the nations promoted to the EuroHockey U18 Championship two years from now.
Scotland U18 Head Coach Colin Clarke said, “Our aim for the Europeans is to be promoted back to the top division. The players are aware that if we stick to our processes and focus on what we can control then the results will take care of themselves.
“We expect our all our games to be challenging and physical and the players are looking forward to putting the hard work into practice starting with Poland on Tuesday.
“To acclimatise [for the weather in Spain], we played three test matches in Prague in soaring heat and since we returned to Scotland, the players have been training in waterproofs to ensure their bodies are continuing to sweat as if they are in hot and humid conditions.”
