Scotland U18 Boys win two from two against Wales in Glasgow
Scotland U18 Boys enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Wales U18 Boys at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. The victory means the team won two games from two in the series as they prepare for the U18 EuroHockey Championships.
Scotland started the game well but it was Wales who created the first chance of the game. Good pressure in the middle of the pitch saw the visitors win the ball and surge on the Scottish circle, but the final effort went just wide of the post.
The opening goal came soon enough and it was Scotland who took the lead with a nice back post finish by Luke Bannerman, from a powerful drive across goal. 1-0.
Shortly later it went to 2-0 when a close range rebound was converted by Johnny Bradley.
The second quarter saw the Scots play with a swagger despite the good Welsh work rate. An excellent save low at the left post denied Scotland from going 3-0 ahead from a drag flick as the home side went on the hunt for more goals.
Scotland’s confident play continued into the second half, and although the Welsh had good moments of play, the Scots looked comfortable in defence and also created the better chances for goals.
Early in the final quarter Wales found the back of the net. A good attack down the right was finished off from close range through the keeper’s legs to pull the score back to 2-1.
Scotland quickly retaliated and went 3-1 up. A quick attack from the left prompted a good save by the Welsh keeper, but Murdo MacDonald was on hand to pounce and score with a finish into the roof of the net.
A tremendous diving save to the keeper’s right denied Wales from pulling another goal back as they battled hard.
The scoring wasn’t finished yet, however, and as the game reaches its conclusion Ed May fired home a low finish from a penalty corner rebound to make it 4-1 to Scotland.
