Scotland U18 Boys aiming to retain European status
Scotland U18 Boys will compete against the best young international teams the continent has to offer when they participate in the EuroHockey U18 Championship in Vienna, Austria from 22-28 July.
The Scots will face Germany, France and Spain in a challenging Pool B grouping. Hosts Austria, Belgium, England and the Netherlands make up the teams competing in Pool A.
The target for Head Coach Graham Dunlop and his players is to retain their status in the competition for 2015, while focussing on the development of their skills and performance levels for the future.
“The target is to stay up. There are key games against France and then the cross-over matches that will be critical to our success”, said Dunlop. “The game against Germany will be an opportunity for the boys to play against a top class team and develop our game.
“Preparations have been limited; we’ve not had as many international games as we would have liked and have had to play our U21s and senior women to get pitch time. Thankfully, the weather has been great recently and this has given boys some idea what it’ll be like in Vienna.
“The mood in the squad is good and the players are excited and can’t wait to get started. They know exactly what they are up against and how tough it will be, but it’s where we want to be.
“Hopefully we can develop as many players as possible and bring them up a level so we can give Graham Moodie as many players for next year’s U21 programme as we can. As much as the aim is to stay up, we want to try and develop players for future years and produce higher standards.”
