Scotland men’s squad to play Wales in Cardiff
Scotland men will play Wales in Cardiff on 24 and 25 January in the team’s first build up games for the FIH World Cup Qualifiers. Both matches will be played at Sophia Gardens at 12pm.
It’s a huge year for the squad with a qualification competition on the horizon in Santiago, Chile, from 28 February to 8 March. The Blue Sticks are in a Pool with France; Wales; and the hosts, Chile, with a place at the World Cup the prize. Ireland; South Korea; Canada; and Poland form Pool B.
It builds on a successful 2025 where the Scots won the first ever FIH Nations Cup 2 in Oman.
With Wales being a competitor at the World Cup qualifier these test matches present an excellent warm up opportunity ahead of the tournament.
Interim Head Coach Neil Allan said, “After a short training block, I am delighted to name the 21 players who will represent Scotland in our first matches of 2026. It has been pleasing to see the hard work and dedication shown by the players throughout the training camps as we continue our development towards the World Cup Qualifiers in Chile.
“It is great to welcome back the experience of Lee Morton, Cameron Golden, and Tommy Alexander, and I look forward to seeing what they can once again bring in a Scotland shirt. It is also fantastic to give Jacob Tweedie his first opportunity at this level. He has been training exceptionally well over the past 12 months and fully deserves the chance to showcase his abilities at senior international level.
“These matches are vitally important to our preparation and will allow us to explore player combinations and further develop our systems against higher-ranked opposition. With limited preparation time due to the weather, these games have come at a very welcome time, and we will continue to build on the strong progress made over the last few years.”
